28th August, 2010:
Our country is one of the front runners in the growth of Industrialization amongst the third world countries. Besides others, there are three aspects which are important for the growth of industrial development. One is scientific production process, second is pollution control and the third is recycling of waste. Our school took a conscious decision to acclimatize our students with the above and arranged for a Field Trip at a Paper Mill near to Kolkata.

On 28th August 2010, students of Commerce, classes XI & XII were taken on Field Trip to Madhubati Paper Mill, near Bombay Road, Uluberia. The group was escort by our teachers, Mrs. Snigdha Chatterjee and Mrs Pompa Dass. The team availed Swayambar Bus for transportation. They left School at about 10.45am and reached Madhubati at 12.15 noon. They were warmly received by the Director and the Manager of the Mill. The team was then escorted to see in and around the Mill.

The Factory was in operation and the students were briefed about the layout of the infrastructure of the Mill, sequential to production process and the Machinery, used for production of finished product, i.e., the packing material being brown paper. The operational procedures were lucidly explained so that the same is understandable to every one easily. The Mill produces a kind of brown paper which is specially used for packing. The entire unit is based on recycling of waste materials. Hard boards, card board boxes are being recycled. Initially they are mixed with water to produce pulp followed by treatment with various types of chemicals to complete the processes. The pulp is fed to different kind of rolling mill set up in tandem to produce long sheet which is wind and stored in huge rolls. A kind of hard brown paper is produced as an end product. Incidentally, it is important to mention that even the water is also recycled here to avoid wastage and pollution outside surroundings. Smokeless fuel produced from crushed husk of wheat is used to avoid environmental pollution. All the team members visited the Mill with keen interest and overwhelmed because of their new experience. To the students as well as teachers, it was a unique experience. They all felt academically enriched and from practical point of view knowledgeable.

The student learnt about the recycling process and understood the importance of the waste materials. It was an exposure to the real world of Industry.

Snacks and cold drinks were served to all. Students remained cooperative and well behaved. The entire team extended their gratitude to the authorities of the Mill for their cooperation and nice hospitality.
